Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are cancer cells that possess characteristics associated with normal stem cells. CSCs are therefore tumorigenic and may generate tumors through the stem cell processes of self-renewal and differentiation into multiple cell types. Such cells are hypothesized to persist in tumors as a distinct population and cause relapse and metastasis by giving rise to new tumors. Therefore, development of specific therapies targetedat CSCs holds great promise for improvement of survival and quality of life for cancer patients, especially for patients with metastatic disease.
The International Symposium of Advances in Cancer Stem Cell Therapeuticswill encompass cutting-edge research and findings in CSC technologies, development of CSC-targeted therapies, current understanding of cancer cell plasticity and tumor microenvironment, and other advancements in CSC research and clinical translation.
The International Symposium of Advances in Cancer Stem Cell Therapeuticswill feature world-renowned keynote speakers in the field and will be a great platform for academicians, scientists, clinicians, business associates and graduate students to share their current findings in CSC research and clinical application.

1. Tariq Enver Professor, Stem Cell Lab, Department of Cell Biology, University College London Cancer Institute. Research interest: mechanisms by which tissue and developmental stage specific gene expression is achieved and regulated; insight into how blood stem cells are configured in molecular terms, the nature of the pathways involved in their cell fate decisions, and how these are corrupted by chimaeric transcription factors associated with human leukaemia.

3. John DiGiovanni PhD Professor, Director of Center for Molecular Carcinogensis and Toxicology, University of Texas Austin, TX, USA. Research interest: i) identifying critical targets and mechanisms involved in the initiation and promotion stages of chemical as well as UV skin carcinogenesis; ii) identification of genetic determinants of susceptibility to chemically-induced skin cancer; iii) exploring novel prevention strategies for inhibiting chemical and UV skin carcinogenesis; and iv) development of new mouse models for cancer, including models for skin, prostate and head and neck cancers.
