On 11th January, the first meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Zhengzhou University (AMS (ZZU)) was held in Beijing. Professor Cao Xuetao, Chair of SAB (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Dean of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences), Professor Irene Ng, member of SAB (Director of State Key Laboratory for Liver Research, University of Hong Kong), Professor Pei Duanqing, member of SAB (President of Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences). Professor Gu Zhenqing, Vice President of Zhengzhou University, Professor Nicholas Lemoine, Dean of the AMS (ZZU) and senior staff of the High-Level Personnel Office and the AMS( ZZU) attended the meeting. Professor Nicholas Lemoine, Dean of the AMS (ZZU) presided over the meeting.
The appointment ceremony for the Chair and members of the SAB was held during the meeting. Vice President Gu Zhenqing handed over the Letter of Appointment officially to the Chair and members of the SAB and delivered a speech. On behalf of the University, he extended congratulations and a warm welcome to the three esteemed professors appointed as Chair and members of the SAB. He said that the AMS (ZZU) has established an international management system and structure under the leadership of Professor Nicholas Lemoine. The AMS (ZZU) will be run under the leadership of the Dean as the academic leader and project leader with the AMS (ZZU) Council as a higher decision-making body. The Executive Board and SAB are also set up for their respective functions. The SAB plays a key role in providing advice and guidance in the strategy and direction of development, discipline construction, scientific research, talent recruitment, etc., and will ratify all major decisions.He sincerely hoped the chair and members of SAB will feel able to increase their involvement in the development of the AMS (ZZU), especially in providing advice and guidance. Zhengzhou University will give every support to ensure that the SAB can carry out their work smoothly.Professor Nicholas Lemoine, Dean of the AMS( ZZU), shared his goals and work plan of the future development of the AMS (ZZU) with SAB members. All member of SAB appraised what had been achieved by the AMS (ZZU) so far and gave their own advice.
In accordance with the procedure of talent recruitment to the AMS (ZZU), Professor Nicholas Lemoine, Dean of the AMS (ZZU), three members of the SAB and other senior staff from ZZU and AMS (ZZU) interviewed six candidates and made key appointments of Center Leads and Principal Investigators. This represents a successful start to the program to create the faculty of the AMS (ZZU).
